Rematch, Stalemate, and the Surrender
Shortly after the British took over Fort Quebec the French decided to try and regain control over the fort once again. The battle between the two nations went on for several hours when the two went into a stalemate and became hostages to each other. It seemed like nothing went on for a very long time. This was because both sides were waiting for a supply ship to come from their home country to bring equipment and ammunition because both side had run out. So whoever had their supply ship show up first would win the war because there would be no one to fight back because of no weapons. With both sides sitting and awaiting the arrival of hopefully their own ship first a ship arrives through the St. Lawrence River. The crew and captain of the ship were not stupid and had taken down any flags or colours of the nation that they were from so that there would be no knowing for sure whose ship it was. Also there was no talking on the ship when it entered near the fort because voices could be heard from a long way off so the language would be heard from the shore. When it finally arrived at Fort Quebec both side were waiting to see who the ship belonged to. The captain of the ship slowly raised the flag of the nation... As soon as it was raised there were cheers from the British side... It was a British ship! The British had won the war! The French were defeated so the French surrendered the Fort and it was now the British's fort. In surrendering Montcalm was forced to do a painful thing in handing over the flags of their country to the British. Montcalm wasn't going to do this so he did a less painful but very tough decision of burning all of the flags so the British could not have them.
