Fire Boats
In the late 1750's the French created a plan to eliminate the British navy members that were in the St. Lawrence river who were trying to take over Fort Quebec from the French. The fire boats were a long series of 80 French boats filled with explosives and chained to one another made to explode around all of the British ships and blow them all up. The French chose the young people of the fort to go on the boats to light the explosives and send them towards the British. The young men would be able to swim to shore and be safe from the explosions; on the other hand the British navy men did not know how to swin because it was said to be unlucky for a navy men to be able to swim. There was one big problem with this plan... the boats blew up too early and did not make it to the British ships so the British were able to continue the fight to overtake Fort Quebec.
